PRESS RELEASE : The Rotary Club of Stratford
ANNUAL RURAL URBAN NIGHT 2004
The Rotary Club of Stratford
presents its annual Rural Urban Night on Thursday, April 22nd
at the Stratford Fairgrounds, featuring the "Flavours of Perth" in a
sumptuous buffet supper, with after-dinner entertainment by Gisele Ireland.
The annual Rural Urban Night,
sponsored by the Rotary Club of Stratford, has been a club tradition for over
30 years. But Rotary involvement with the agricultural community goes back even
further: in 1927, the first Rotary-Farmer Picnic was held in Queen’s Park, and
that custom continued until 1947. The purpose of the event is to bring city and
country together at a social occasion for fellowship, fun, and mutual
understanding.
The cocktail hour begins at
6:30 with a cash bar and live musical entertainment.
At 7:30 p.m. the flavours of
Stratford and Perth County will be featured in a buffet-style meal. Several
local sponsors have generously donated various components of the meal: The
Arden Park Hotel, The Victorian Inn on the Park and Sawyers on the river, the
Festival Inn, Pelee Island Winery, Tango Coffee Bistro, Fellini’s Italian Café
and Grill, the Perth County Cattlemen’s Association, the Chicken Farmers of
Ontario, L&M Catering, The Olde English Parlour, and Bravo Bakery. Wine can
be purchased at the meal.
Gisele Ireland’s talk,
entitled "If Things Were Different," is an informal look at family
relationships and rural life, a humorous portrayal in the same vein as her
columns for The Rural Voice, a monthly farm-related newspaper. She lives with
her husband Brian on a farm near Teeswater, where she takes an active part in
the family business, Teeswater Agro Parts, and in a florist business in the
village.
Event Chairman Mark Smith says
it will be "an evening of fun, fellowship, wine-tasting and food, as well
as an opportunity to recognize the importance of interaction between our rural
and urban communities."
Members of the public are
invited to join neighbours and friends from the city and country at this Rotary
event. Advance tickets only, at $20 each, are available from members of the
Rotary Club of Stratford, or at the Stratford Fairground Office (271-5130) or
at the Victorian Inn on the Park (271-4650).
All funds raised will be used
to support Rotary projects, including education and literacy initiatives, aid
for the disadvantaged in our community and abroad, and the Rotary Respite
House.
